Sorry if this gets asked a lot. I saw the extended look and I want to get this at launch but I have literally never played one of these. Do the stories connect? Should I play 5 or the older Vice City one first so I understand things? I do not want to be lost.

You do not need to play any of them. The mainline games share a universe and some brands and radio hosts, but each story stands completely alone. Nothing in this one will require knowledge of the others.
If you want to play one first, play 5, because it is the closest in feel and it will teach you the controls. But go in November with this one regardless. Being new to a GTA at launch is a genuinely good experience.
Welcome. Do not let anyone make you feel bad for not having played the old ones... most of us were new once too, and honestly the 2002 one has not aged in a way that is friendly to a newcomer.

Thank you both. That is a relief. I will probably grab 5 to practise then.
One tip: do not try to do everything. I have made that mistake with every open world game and I have finished about three of them.
