Asking with no real hope. Twenty four years and a modern setting means most of what was there would have been knocked down or renovated, which is itself an interesting thought.
But art deco does not get knocked down, it gets protected. If any of those Ocean Beach frontages are shaped like the ones from 2002 that would be a lovely thing to find... has anyone looked?
I looked for this specifically. Several frontages have the right massing and the right window rhythm, but nothing matches a 2002 building closely enough to call, and the old geometry was not accurate to real buildings anyway.
sun faded paint is such a specific detail to get right and it is the reason it does not look like a remake
The right idea rather than the right building is probably the honest answer... and honestly that is what I wanted anyway.
That is a lovely thought actually. The buildings survived the twenty four years better than the rest of it did.
the paint is different though. everything is sun faded now and in the old game it was all saturated. thats the twenty four years right there
Your point about art deco being protected rather than demolished is a real one. The preservation is why a modern Ocean Beach can still look like that.
