I have every GTA on disc going back to a PS2 copy of Vice City that still works. My shelf tells a story.
What ships in November is a cardboard sleeve with a string of characters in it. In ten years that is a dead object. The servers turn off, the code was already redeemed, and you own a piece of printed card.
I am still buying it. I am just not pretending it is the same thing.
The practical angle nobody mentions: no disc also means no used market. That is a real change for people who buy secondhand, which is a lot of people.
My Vice City disc still works too... there is something about that which is hard to explain to people who have only ever downloaded things.
my ps2 vice city disc is so scratched it looks like a cd from a car floor and it still boots

That is completely fair and I am not telling anyone they should care. I am saying the word physical is doing dishonest work in the marketing.

honestly i havent put a disc in a console in like 4 years so this doesnt bother me
