Survey method, first draft, for October
Since a few people said they would contribute, here is a draft method to argue about now rather than in November.
Distances measured by driving, not by map. Same vehicle for every run, chosen once and agreed. Timed from full stop to full stop. Three runs per route, median taken, all three published.
Routes defined between named locations only, never between coordinates, so anybody can reproduce them.
Water routes measured separately and never compared to road routes.
Everything published including the failures. If a route cannot be driven, that is a finding.
Argue with this now. The one thing I have learned from two months of scale threads is that nobody accepts a standard after they already have numbers they like.
