In V, dying meant a hospital and a fee. RDR2 was the same with a bed.
With two protagonists in a relationship, I am curious whether that stays the same or whether there is anything different about it. If one of them going down has any weight beyond a respawn, that would be a meaningful design choice. Nothing official either way that I can find.
That is fair. I think what I was actually asking is whether the game treats them as a pair for anything, and there is no evidence it does.

It would also be a nightmare to balance and it would get old by hour six, which is probably why nobody does it.
Death as a failure state and death as a story event are entirely separate systems and no game has ever successfully merged them without it feeling cheap.
