Serious question because I keep having this argument in comments and I want to know where other people draw the line.
Is a mechanic a spoiler? Is a location a spoiler? Is a character who has not been officially announced a spoiler? I would say no, no, and yes, but I am aware that is arbitrary.
Where is everyone else drawing it, and does the line move once the game is out?
Source rather than content is a much cleaner rule than the one I have been using and I am adopting it.
a location is only a spoiler if the location itself is the surprise, which happens about twice per rockstar game and you never know which twice in advance
My line is: anything Rockstar has shown is fair game, anything from a leak is not, and anything about the second half of the story is not regardless of source.
The reason I use source rather than content as the test is that content lines are arbitrary and source lines are not. Either Rockstar published it or somebody took it.
Two weeks feels short. RDR2 took me four months and I was not being slow on purpose.
That last point is the honest problem with my whole position and I do not have an answer to it.
The line definitely moves after launch. Two weeks in, the burden shifts to the person who has not played it yet, and I think that is correct.
Mechanics are not spoilers. Learning that cars have alarms does not diminish anything. Learning who dies does. That is where I draw it.
